Block image-distorting UV and IR components
B+W filters, which allow invisible ultraviolet or infrared to pass through but block or severely restrict the visible spectrum, enable insights into otherwise hidden worlds in conjunction with appropriately sensitised film. Other B+W special filters, on the other hand, prevent this radiation, which is disturbing in certain situations and distorts the image impression, from reaching the sensor through the lens.
The B+W 486 UV-IR blocking filter has a steep-sided absorption against unwanted UV and infrared components. It prevents colour casts and blurring in digital cameras whose IR blocking has a residual transmission in front of the image sensor. This is not achieved by absorption via glass colouring, but by interference, a multitude of wafer-thin partially reflective layers of precisely calculated thickness.
The B+W 486 UV/IR cut filter is colourless clear and does not require an exposure extender. It can also be left permanently on the lens as a protective filter. The B+W 486 UV/IR cut filter is MRC-coated.
